Countertop Warranties, Compared: What the Top Brands Actually Cover

As of October 2026

Every countertop brand promises to stand behind its surface. The words on the brochure sound reassuring: "lifetime," "25-year," "worry-free." The documents behind those words differ in ways that matter years after installation. A warranty that sounds generous can go quiet if you sell your home, forget to register, or call about the wrong kind of damage. And if you choose natural stone, you may have no manufacturer warranty at all.

We pulled the current warranty documents for the top brands across quartz, mineral and sintered surfaces, and treated natural stone, and read the fine print. Here's what they actually say.

The Comparison Chart

Four questions separate a strong warranty from a disappointing one: How long does it last? Does it transfer when you sell? Is there a registration deadline? And what kind of damage actually qualifies?

Terms come from each brand's current published warranty document. Natural stone stain protection comes from sealers, not the slab; sealer makers' own claims run roughly 1 to 15 years.

What Every Manufacturer Warranty Covers

Strip away the marketing and every one of these warranties makes the same core promise: the surface itself will be free of manufacturing defects. If the material fails because of a flaw in how it was made, not how it was installed or used, the brand will repair or replace it, at their discretion.

Two things worth knowing about that promise:

  • Repair or replace is the brand's choice, and every document says an exact color match can't be guaranteed. Patterns vary between production runs and slabs, so a replaced section may not be a perfect twin of the original.
  • Most warranties require the product to be paid for in full. An open balance can void coverage.

What Almost No Warranty Covers

Across the quartz brands especially, the same exclusions show up:

  • Heat damage. Hot pans, air fryers, and thermal shock are excluded by every quartz brand we reviewed. Trivets aren't optional if you want your coverage intact.
  • Outdoor installation. Standard interior warranties don't apply outside.
  • Chemical damage. Harsh cleaners, high-pH products, and paint removers are excluded.
  • Chips, scratches, and stains from use. These count as wear or abuse, not manufacturing defects.
  • Fabrication and installation. Seams, edge work, support problems, and install errors are the fabricator's responsibility, not the brand's. Every document says so.

The Standouts Worth Knowing

A few warranties break from the pack, in both directions.

Dekton covers what quartz won't: cracking from thermal shock and extreme temperatures, stains from common food, beverage and household products, and UV fading indoors and out. That makes it one of the few surfaces with written outdoor coverage, and it's even warrantied for barbecues and fireplace surrounds when installed to Cosentino's manuals. Impact chips are still excluded. On heat specifically, Dekton's care guide says hot pans, casseroles, and heat-producing appliances can go straight from use onto the surface. Cosentino publishes no upper temperature limit, requiring protection only on its thinnest 8mm profile.

Eclos is the only warranty in this group that names hot cookware: damage from pots and pans fresh off the stovetop is covered up to 428°F. But it's strictly an indoor product. Outdoor use and direct sunlight are excluded.

Caesarstone Outdoor plays by different rules than indoor quartz: its separate 10-year outdoor warranty covers surfaces permanently installed where outside temperatures stay between -13°F and 122°F. Caesarstone's indoor warranty still excludes heat damage entirely.

SENSA is Cosentino's treated natural stone: real granite and quartzite with a factory-applied protective treatment. It carries a transferable 15-year warranty that covers the stain resistance itself. It's the rare natural stone with a manufacturer behind it.

XTONE sits at the other end: Porcelanosa's sintered stone warranty runs just 3 years against origin defects. The material performs well; the paper is simply short.

The Honest Truth About Natural Stone

If your heart is set on granite, marble, quartzite, or dolomite that isn't factory-treated, here's the plain answer: natural stone carries no manufacturer warranty. There's no brand to call. The stone came out of the ground, not off a production line. Variation in color, pattern, and density isn't a defect; it's the material being itself.

That puts the quality gate where it belongs: with your fabricator. A homeowner can't judge a slab's quality by looking at it. Fissures, resin repairs, and structural flaws take a trained eye. You need a reputable fabricator to inspect your stone when it's delivered to the shop. At Granite Plus, that's exactly what we do: if we find defects, we consult with you and work with the supplier to replace the slabs before anything is cut. Your protection then continues with the fabricator's workmanship and your own care routine: wiping spills, using trivets, and sealing. On that last habit: sealer makers publish stain-protection periods from about a year to 15 years, depending on the product. Those are the sealer makers' claims, not a warranty on the stone itself. Sealer technology earns its own post; we'll go deeper there. Many homeowners add a protection plan (more on that below) to cover the risks no quarry ever will.

The Part the Brands Don’t Cover: Your Fabricator

Read enough of these warranties in a row and one fact jumps out: the brand covers the slab, not the job. Seams, support, cutouts, edge profiles, leveling: all of it sits with the company that fabricated and installed your countertops. A perfect slab with a poor install has no warranty protection from the brand at all.

Those fabrication rules aren't vague. They're published engineering standards, and they decide real claims. Take the holes cut for sinks and cooktops. Brand fabrication manuals require every inside corner of a cutout to be rounded, never square: Caesarstone, MSI, and Dekton all call for a minimum 3/8-inch radius, Corian Quartz a minimum 1/4 inch, and every manual agrees the larger the radius, the stronger the corner. A sharp 90-degree corner concentrates stress into a single point. If a crack starts there, the brand reads it as a fabrication error, not a material defect, and that crack isn't covered. That's worth knowing before committing to certain looks. Social media is full of beautiful mitered, integrated sinks with crisp square corners. They can be done. Just go in understanding the trade: if a crack ever traces back to one of those corners, it won't be a warranty claim, so it's a choice to make with open eyes.

That's why the choice of fabricator carries as much weight as the choice of material. A qualified, authorized fabricator keeps the brand warranty valid, gets the registration done on time, and stands behind the workmanship the brand documents carve out.

Filling the Gaps: The Granite Gold Protection Plan

Manufacturer warranties share a blind spot: the things that actually happen in kitchens. Stains, etches, chips, scratches: the everyday stuff is excluded almost everywhere. That's exactly what a protection plan is for.

Granite Plus offers the Granite Gold Countertop Protection Plan in 5- and 10-year terms. Where the manufacturer's warranty stops, the plan picks up: household stains, food and beverage, cosmetics and oils, etching from common cleaners, chips, pitting and scratches, hard water marks, and even caulking and grout joint repairs, all handled by expert technicians who clean and repair rather than replace. The main rule to know: call within 30 days of the stain or damage.

For natural stone especially, where there's no manufacturer warranty at all, a protection plan is the only written coverage you can buy. Ask us about adding it when you choose your slab.

How to Keep Your Coverage Valid

Whatever you choose, four habits protect you:

  1. Register on time. Deadlines range from 30 days to 6 months depending on the brand.
  2. Keep your invoice. Paid-in-full proof is required by nearly every document.
  3. Follow the care guidelines. Each brand publishes them, and "improper care" is a listed exclusion.
  4. Use trivets and cutting boards. Even where heat is covered, the coverage has limits, and scratches are excluded nearly everywhere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do natural stone countertops have a warranty?
No manufacturer warranty exists for untreated granite, marble, quartzite, or dolomite. The exceptions are factory-treated stones like SENSA (15-year transferable). Your coverage is the fabricator's workmanship plus any protection plan you add.

Does any warranty cover heat damage from a hot pan?
Two, within limits. Dekton covers thermal shock cracking and heat-exposed installations like fireplace surrounds, Eclos covers hot cookware up to 428°F, and Caesarstone's Outdoor collection is warrantied in climates from -13°F to 122°F, though that's weather, not cookware. Every indoor quartz warranty we reviewed excludes heat.

If I sell my house, does the warranty go with it?
Often, but not always. Cambria transfers automatically, and the Cosentino brands (Silestone, Dekton, Eclos, SENSA) plus LG Viatera allow transfers. Caesarstone, HanStone, and Q Quartz end with the original owner.

Do I really need to register?
For most brands, yes. HanStone gives you 30 days; the Cosentino brands and Viatera give you 6 months; Caesarstone requires registration to activate. Registration takes minutes and protects years of coverage.

What's the difference between a warranty and a protection plan?
A warranty covers defects in the material itself. A protection plan covers life: stains, etches, chips and scratches that warranties exclude. They're complements, not substitutes.

The Bottom Line

The longest warranty isn't automatically the best one. Cambria leads quartz on length and transferability; Dekton and Eclos cover heat risks no quartz brand will touch; SENSA puts real writing behind natural stone; and untreated marble, granite, quartzite and dolomite ask you to lean on your fabricator and your care routine instead. Whatever you choose, remember the split every document draws: brands cover the slab, fabricators cover the job, and a protection plan covers life in between. Pick all three carefully, register on time, and keep the trivet handy anyway.

One last thing: warranties change over time. Cosentino is a good example: it updated its warranty terms in 2026, and its older documents read differently than the current ones. Everything in this article reflects documents published as of October 2026. Before you buy, confirm the current terms with the brand.

Everything's better wrapped in stone.
